On Monday, February 10, 2014, President Barack Obama and French President François Hollande will visit Monticello. Monticello will be closed to visitors, but Ash Lawn-Highland will be open from 10AM to 5PM, with the last tour at 5PM. Advance reservations are not necessary. We are delighted at this opportunity to consider historic U.S.-French relations, which were central to Monroe’s political career. Come learn about Monroe’s role in finalizing the negotiations for the Louisiana Purchase, his two tours as Minister to France, and his lifelong strategic thinking about geopolitics and the young United States.
Ash Lawn-Highland is located at 2050 James Monroe Parkway, about 2 miles from Monticello. If the presidential visit causes traffic disruptions on Route 53, please consider alternate routes: from Route 250 East through the historic area of Milton, or from Route 20 South past Trump and Blenheim vineyards. We look forward to telling you about James Monroe!
